Might as well add this. This is me saying "cunt" - twice - in court in front of the judge. It sure wasn't funny at the time.

  • David Denniston I read through them all and said out loud the same thing -- JESUS.
Alsún I admire your toughness dealing with this unspeakable horror.
  • Jerry Burdick Despite how sick and in severe need of supervised care this guy is....I'd still like five minutes with him in a private setting. This makes my heart hurt. I'm so sorry you've had to live through this. I just want to give you a hug and offer some sense of peace and humanity.
  • Simon Williams That sicko shouldn’t see the light of day
  • Stephen Freathy Wow. What you have to endure is terrible. I’m so sorry.
  • Barry Kort After the question you asked me a few minutes ago, I did another search and just now found this item, which I find quite chilling. I had no idea things had gotten this bad.

    • Alsún Ní Chasaide Remember this? I do.

He violated probation this time USING HIS JOB which he had just picked up, in order to show up at Jane Doe #2's door. He did this to terrify her, and he's been harassing her for 25 years.

I have a ten-year Criminal Protective Order against him, as did she. It's worthless.

He *must* go to prison, and stay there for as long as possible. This is no longer about him and his life, it's about the lives he's ruined around him, and there are many. I've had a decade+ of this, and I'm done.
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide I've been in court on-and-off now - for just this round - since 2016. Stood up in court, dealt with the judge and the DA. Had to enter the Address Confidentiality Program, got a new social security number, lost my credit history, can't do this - can't do that. Cost a fortune and uprooted everything. Sold my fucking car because he knew it.

I'm sick of this. Sick of it.
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide He put a bounty on my trash - would pay for used tampons. Threatened to pull my teeth out with a pilers.
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide Showed up at my workplace. Left screaming, deranged voicemails. Want to hear them?

And this - all since December 2016 alone. It got to the point that I could barely function at work any more. My employer posted security outside because he not only thr
eatened me, but also our director of global security. Threatened to shoot his middle kid in the head outside his home [posts a pic looking in his window], and describes how he would make him kneel down on the sidewalk first.
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide I held a lot of this in for years, and put up with people - especially on forums that you were involved in - minimizing it and ridiculing me. Remember that? I do.
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide And right now, I really don't even want to think on this any more. Just want to sleep.
    • Barry Kort He's clearly become a lot more psychopathic than he was four years ago, when I last took notice of this story.

What I thought you were recollecting was this story, which did not involve AWM. This was the occasion where you last got mad at me.

    • Barry Kort That was in May of 2015, and I've been out of touch with your accounts ever since.
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide If you think this is new, you've not been paying attention. Here's 2013 from the police transcript;

" • Morrow impersonating a US Immigration official, called my workplace via the main switch using a throwaway Skype number. He told me he had taken my
child into custody. I was confused as to what was going on and just blurted out, "but he’s only 7 years old!" He started laughing then; "Don’t know you know who this is? Haha - it’s me - Andrew! Thank you for volunteering that information about your child." I slammed down the phone immediately and called Apple Security. Called my child’s school, and he was safe. Later in email, "Of course, AWM did not *ask* for the age, but you gave it away anyway. Oh well. 7 years old. No public hair yet, I would rather expect." I went and reported this to the Santa Clara County Sheriff again (13-107-0253C) for "Annoying or Obscene Phone Call", but he was arrested later in the month before anything was done.
"
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide " • Shows up at Steve Jobs’ widow Laurene’s house because he cannot get to me and doesn’t know where I live. Mentions my youngest child in an overtly sexual way; "Oh, and keep a look-out for pubic hair on the ball-sack of that son of yours. It might come in any day now. You know, just little ones at first.""
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide I'm done for tonight. Seriously. Nothing to prove here, Barry, and I've been telling this story for a decade now.
    • Barry Kort I understand that your encounters with him date back more than a decade. I wasn't privy to the bulk of the story before May of 2015 and (until today) I wasn't privy to any of it since May of 2015.

I understand and appreciate your reluctance to disclos
      e details.

It's been a challenge to piece the elements together, as I have had limited access to your accounts, and hence little insight into the totality of the story.
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide You don't remember this, then? May 2008 from WR? You were very active then, and remember the weeks of disbelief and mockery from that forum? Including threats from Brandt?

      Remember? I do.
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide And y'know what? I have nothing to prove to anyone, or to justify or explain. I, and three other women, went to the DA here in Santa Clara County. A fraction of his victims, frankly.

And I stood up and testified as to what he did. To the court, to the
judge, and to his fucking face. And he got jailed on multiple felony charges and I was glad. I got to sleep peacefully again.

And as soon as he got out, he did it all over again. Hence today. Only this time, it's 5 years in State prison.

Again, I don't care about his welfare in prison. You can only lead the horse to the water so many times. His dozens of victims matter more than his welfare right now, frankly. And when he gets out in 5 years and does it all over again (because he will), I'll send his ass right back to prison again. Nobody touches my kids.
    • Barry Kort A decade ago, AWM was at the very least an obnoxious boor (as were a lot of people in the WikiSphere back then).

As of five years ago, he had devolved into a demonstrated case of clinical sociopathy.

Now, in 2019, I'd say he has further devolved into full blown psychopathy.

Eight years ago, this satire summarized what I had gleaned from the scattered accounts (including some newspaper accounts in the Palo Alto Press).

    • Lise Broer The devil doesn't need advocates. Yet if anyone is going to engage in thought experiments, here's one to weigh.

AWM is not right in the head. His precise diagnosis is somewhat beside the point. In the eyes of the law he knows right from wrong, which m
eans the criminal justice system handles him. For the past quarter century it has given him second and third and fourth chances (etc.). He has squandered every one of them.

So here starts the thought experiment.

People who have roughly that combination of poor mental health and trouble with the law tend to have shortened lifespans. That happens for a number of reasons starting with weakened ties to family, few friends etc.

AWM has stalked and threatened dozens of people. Rehabilitation fantasies might seem appealing from a distance, but what we know is that as long as he walks free he finds more targets. This consumes time and resources, and critically--from the perspective of this thought experiment--that endangers AWM.

He doesn't think of it this way. Yet as we all agree, he isn't right in the head.

If he remains free then the likeliest outcome is he will continue until he knocks on the door of someone who is willing and able to defend themselves with deadly force. AWM has spent decades setting up a conclusion of justifiable homicide. I don't wish such an impasse on anyone, yet--look up the statute for yourself.

On a simple risk-benefit basis, is it worth such a downside on the slender possibility that some new approach might reform him? IMHO if he were capable of reform he would have done so long ago. He first came to my attention a dozen years ago, by which time he already had a reputation of being "totally insane" (not my words) and a hardened criminal stalker. Even if we set aside the trouble and expense to good people like Allie--and we shouldn't--I'd bet a pint of Guinness that if he weren't lurking one of the most liberal metropolitan areas in the country he would already have knocked on that wrong door. Say what you will good or bad about our culture, but what do you think would have happened in Houston? Or Memphis?

I'll leave this with a link to a podcast about another criminal case, one that also deals with misogyny and that also took decades to resolve. With a quote from Rachel Denhollander in the final episode:

"You play word games saying you didn't know because no one believed. I know that. And the reason everyone who heard about Larry's abuse did not believe it is because they did not listen. They did not listen in 1997 or 1998 or 1999 or 2000 or 2004 or 2014. No one knew, according to your definition of know, because no one handle(d) the reports of abuse properly."

    • Barry Kort It was even worse in the Catholic Church, where abuse victims were afraid to come forward for decades.

I can understand why individuals are loathe to break the ice on publicly chronicling these cases.

One of the reasons humankind invented literature is that it provided a safe way to tell a true story without naming names.

Fiction is a great scam. You get to tell the truth while pretending to lie.
    • Elana Kehoe Allie has been through a LOT over the years. And just because you didn't have the full story doesn't give you an excuse to diminish her reality. Keep that in mind for the next victim: you don't have the right to every detail. You have no idea what she went through to get into the Address Confidentiality program, every day while scared that he would figure it out and still find her. How dare you.
    • Barry Kort There is nothing more real than fear.

Americans have been in the grip of terror for nearly two decades now.

I even lived through an episode of death threats, including an actual attempt on my own life, some 35 years ago.

So, yeah, I know what it's like to live through death threats and actual attempts on one's life.
    • Lise Broer Then having been through it, please have the discretion to be more respectful of Allie. She has done nothing to diminish her credibility.
    • Barry Kort What does credibility have to do with it? The issue isn't one of credibility. The issue is one of devising the best strategy for handling a terroristic threat.
    • Aoibhe Ní Shúilleabháin Barry, I don't know you, but oh my god, shut up.
    • Barry Kort I am here at Allie's express invitation.

If Allie wants me gone, she knows the drill.

But Allie expressly invited me and I accepted her invitation.
    • Alsún Ní Chasaide That was primarily to answer a comment about the Irish language that you tagged me in. But as you now push that one back onto me, I can see the error of my ways. Time to go .... last word to you.
    • Barry Kort I'm around if you need me.
